Meta-Tags: Necessary But You're Not Done Yet

|

If there is one thing you are going to do to help your website get better ranked by search engines. Adding keywords to your website's meta-tags isn't going to do it. The only way adding new keywords to your meta-tags will help is the following:

  1. You put new keywords in different pages AND use those keywords throughout that page. This is because search engines are smart enough to realize that someone only added certain words into the keywords and not into the web page because clearly that page isn't actually about those keywords.
  2. You don't put too many keywords in your meta-tags; doing so will get you black-listed. Too many words usually means using more than 255 characters; and yes spaces are included in that count.

So. What should you do? Below are three ideas to get you started in the right direction.

Build a Google Sitemap

Building a Google Sitemap may require the help of someone with website building experience, but is absolutely critical. Essentially what this single document does is tell Google (and a number of other search engines) what pages are on your site. This single document ensures that the search engine documents all of your pages, and reflects very positively on your sites rankings.

Below are links to software that will help you product a great Google Sitemap:

Get Involved in an Internet Chat Room/Forum

Sign up for a forum that relates to your industry. Use it to offer relevant information and meet new people, don't just post up your advertisements. By making personal contacts with other people you end up not having to sell them things, they ask you to buy them.

Write Articles

Content is king, website owners are always looking for free content to publish to their websites. Help them out by writing an article and hits will soon come your way. The easiest way to connect with publishers is here: E-Zine Articles. The website is free to use, and is sure to deliver results.

More ideas will be posted soon, that is it for now. Feel free to comment back with more ideas to get a discussion going.
